Last week Claires Court 1st XV Rugby team played St Bartholomew’s, Newbury in the final of the U18 Berkshire Cup, held at Medway Rugby Football Club.
To reach the final, the boys had beaten The Downs School in the quarter-final 35-5, and Furze Platt in the semi-final 50-5.
During a very tense match, both teams showed strong play and exceptional teamwork in a bid to win the trophy. Claires Court emerged victorious winners, beating St Bartholomew’s 29-27.
Alongside team training, many of the Sixth Form players also are part of the Rugby Development Programme that is focused on taking students' play to the next level; focusing on technique, strategy, nutrition, strength training and also the psychology of sport.
Mr Carter, team coach, said: We’re really proud of the boys. They’ve worked fantastically hard this year. It was a very competitive game and I really think all the extra training they’ve done on the Rugby Development Programme made all the difference. I’m excited to see what next year brings with two more terms of training under our belt.
Furthermore, two key Claires Court players have been noticed by external teams with Scrum Half, Jack D, being selected to play for the South West against London and the South East on 19 February 2022. Also, 1st XV Captain and Head Boy, Will D travelled up to Edinburgh on Thursday 10 February to take part in the Scotland U18 Trials.
This caps a fantastic year for the 1st XV and all Claires Court Rugby with both the U12’s and U15’s also winning their county cups. Well done!
