Claires Court students are celebrating their individual, and well deserved, successes today after sitting their first exams post covid.
There is a strong higher education focus with 85% of all students accepting places at universities across the UK. We are proud of the communities built in all areas of the school, especially at Sixth Form where the cohort not only secured success at A Level, but saw a high achievement in BTEC qualifications, with 50% gaining a Distinction* (A* equivalent) and a growing interest in pursuing degree apprenticeships with employers.
Standout areas include Psychology, History and English Literature with 100% at A*-C, the Arts with 82% of grades in Fine Art, Textiles and Photography at A*-C, and Business with 88% A*-C. Overall, 79% of all grades achieved at A*-C.
Gary Hope, Head of Sixth Form said, “Today is a celebration of the focused work, grit and determination shown by our students over the past two years. I am proud of each one of them and it was a privilege to share in the delight of so many getting their desired grades alongside places at university and other destinations. The students have improved their academic and transferable skills, but just as importantly they have become more resilient, competent and confident, ready to take their place in society and shape it for the better.”
“As well as sharing this pivotal moment with students, parents, families and teachers were also there to enjoy this watershed moment in their sons’ and daughters’ lives. It has been a positive time of recognition and congratulations to all involved in the achievement of remarkable outcomes. I look forward to hearing how students settle into their new routines come September.”
Academic Principal James Wilding concluded,
This cohort of students was one whose GCSE lives were completely changed by the academic year of GCSEs having to be spent in isolation from others in the school, losing out on the opportunities for leadership, sporting advancement and artistic enhancement as well as the stretch and challenge of public exams. Over the past two years, this group has excelled in leading the school community back into full engagement with everything that should mean. I am delighted that they have met the full rigour of exams, university entrance and employee requirements head on. We will miss them of course, yet we wish them all the very best for their futures to come.
