Last week, Principals Hugh and James Wilding officially opened the new Jubilee Wing, named to commemorate HM Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum, and Claires Court’s Diamond Jubilee. The Jubilee Wing is a completely renovated block at Senior Boys, consisting of a newly refurbished suite of classrooms with interactive teaching walls and tables with atrium breakout area.
The beautifully designed learning spaces were transformedover the summer holiday and students have been enjoying the bright and contemporary feel of the Wing complete with inspirational quotes and graphics on the walls. Themed according to subject, the Geography rooms now display a large physical map of the world for easy teaching reference alongside quotes from Shakespeare and Maya Angelou for inspiration in the English classes. Each of the six classrooms are equipped with whiteboard tables that can be written on and arranged to suit the style of teaching required.
The refurbishment includes a social workspace in the atrium area, divided into smaller pods promoting collaborative study and social interaction. The feature wall boasts a floor to ceiling image of pupils sailing at nearby Summerleaze Lake, serving as a reminder of the extensive outdoor education activities on offer on our doorstep.
Hugh Wilding Principal and Bursar said, “We are in the midst of a programme of investment in our three Claires Court sites. Recent additions have included the Bistro, a dedicated social and catering space for our Sixth Formers and a new modular building to house our pastoral hub and additional classrooms at Senior Girls. We have also improved accessibility around the College Avenue site through the addition of ramps and completed the refurbishment of our two Junior libraries. The investment in Senior Boys will continue and are pleased that the Jubilee Wing has been received so well by the current pupils. ”
James Wilding Principal and Head of Senior Boys said,
"I am delighted with our fantastic new classrooms. They have been designed to be dynamic spaces to inspire learning and creativity.
The quotes along the corridors have been chosen to represent relevant thoughts from inspirational past pupils and teachers alongside the prominence of our truly lived values of Responsibility, Respect, Loyalty and Integrity.
The Jubilee Wing refurbishment was predominantly carried out by Westcountry Group, who pride themselves on creating education spaces with wow factor alongside local trades supplying electrical work, glazing and flooring.
