Match report by Miss Cox
Huge congratulations to our tennis boys who were placed fourth at the U18 National Finals last week. Over 365 school teams entered the competitions and the boys progressed through to the National Finals, where they met the top 16 schools in the UK.
Their first match was against Warwick School which the boys won easily (12-0) winning all of their matches. The second day, in sweltering heat, the boys faced the no.4 seeds Merchiston Castle. A thrilling fixture, which saw Claires Court edge the win 8-4 and put us through to the semi-finals. The boys then faced the no.1 seeds Reed's. Three tie breaks unfortunately were won by Reed's which resulted in a loss 4-8, but goes to show how close the boys were in their fight for knocking out the top school. The boys' last day saw them play against Culford, another excellent tennis school, who were the no.3 seeds. The boys fought valiantly, and were drawing 6-6, after all the matches had been played, which then meant a championship tie break. Unfortunately the boys lost 10-8; it was super close, but was just not to be. With each match lasting between 6.5 - 8.5hrs the boys really were put through their paces in what was the hottest week of the year! We are all so very proud of this young squad (x5 of the squad being Y10 boys) and look forward to seeing how they get on next year. Huge congratulations boys, well done!!!
